In Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, Wilshire Division officers were on routine patrol near San Vicente Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue when their Automatic License Plate Reader flagged a stolen vehicle. The officers swiftly identified the vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Ian Jimenez, and initiated pursuit. Jimenez, realizing the chase, accelerated, leading to a collision with another vehicle, causing minor injuries to the occupant. Fleeing on foot into a nearby neighborhood, Jimenez triggered a perimeter lockdown.
Metropolitan Division K9 officers were deployed, and after a brief search, Jimenez was discovered exiting a residence on Masselin Avenue, resulting in a K9 altercation. Despite resistance, Jimenez was eventually apprehended by a second K9 team. Transported to the hospital for treatment of K9-related injuries, Jimenez was later hospitalized for further evaluation. Fortunately, no officers were harmed, although a community member sustained minor injuries during the collision.
